What Truck Owners Ask Us the Most

  • Slipping gears, delayed or harsh shifts, grinding noises, or a burning smell are all red flags. Your transmission may still drive, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy. The earlier it’s inspected, the better chance you have of avoiding a costly breakdown.

  • If the engine revs but the truck doesn’t respond with power, that’s slipping. It usually means worn clutches or low hydraulic pressure. Left unchecked, it only gets worse — and more expensive.

  • oYes. Most transmissions limp along before they fail completely. Driving it while it’s already showing signs of trouble can destroy more internal parts. Rebuilding now can save you thousands later.

  • Fluid should be bright red/pinkish in color. Dark or burnt-smelling fluid means your transmission is overheating or wearing internally. That’s one of the clearest signs it’s time for attention before major failure.

  • Band-aid fixes don’t last. If clutches, seals, or hard parts are failing, a rebuild is the only way to make the transmission strong and reliable again. At RedLine, we don’t just fix the weak link — we upgrade the whole system.

  • Factory transmissions are built to meet minimum standards. Our performance rebuilds are built stronger — upgraded parts, tighter tolerances, and proven durability for towing, horsepower, and everyday reliability.

  • When it’s done right, a rebuild can last as long as — or longer than — brand new. Every RedLine build is torn down, inspected, and upgraded with premium components, so you can count on it mile after mile.

  • Absolutely. A used transmission is an unknown risk with no guarantee. A RedLine rebuild means every part has been inspected, upgraded, and tested — built to perform and built to last.

  • If you’re already noticing slipping, shuddering, or erratic shifting, you’re on borrowed time. Bringing it in before total failure keeps your truck reliable and keeps you off the side of the road.

Care & Maintenance

  • Your transmission should be serviced once per year or every 20,000 miles.

  • We know a new transmission is exciting. There is a 500 mile break-in period. Therefore, we ask that you do not take your new transmission over half throttle. What does that mean? Do not floor the throttle. You may drive and tow normally.

  • Synthetic fluid is required for our builds. If you have a Dodge/RAM the transmission fluid in your new transmission uses a synthetic ATF+4, A Chevy/GMC is a multi-vehicle ATF synthetic. If you have a Ford the fluid is a Multi vehicle synthetic or you can use a Mercon 5. The transmission takes 16 Quarts for a stock pan and 19 -22 Quarts for a deep pan.

  • It is important to monitor the fluid levels on your transmission. The truck should be parked on level ground. Dodge/RAM transmissions must be checked in neutral with the truck running and the emergency brake set. Ford and Chevrolet transmissions can be checked in park position. The transmission stick will show hot or cold. You will need to know the transmission temperature. Top of cold is 120°  Bottom of hot is 170°. When checking the fluid level look at both sides of the stick, the lower one is the accurate read.
